On October 1, the Supreme Court of Azerbaijan, presided by Rahib Nabizade, examined the cassation appeal of lawyer Yalchin Imanov regarding the termination of his lawyer’s powers. The complaint was not satisfied, told Imanov himself.
Thus, the cessation of his advocacy was finalized.
“The Supreme Court, like a notarial office, upheld the decisions of the Ganja Administrative Economic Court and the Ganja Court of Appeal. This was the last lawsuit in this case in the country. After that, I will try to restore my rights in the European Court of Human Rights,” Imanov said.
Since 2007, Imanov has been a member of the Bar Association. However, the presidium of the Bar Association on November 20, 2017 filed a lawsuit with the court to terminate its advocacy. Imanov was punished according to the complaint of the Prison Service for unveiling the fact of torture of his client, activist of the Muslim Unity movement Abbas Huseynov in Gobustan prison. The lawyer indicated that he was doing his professional work.
A number of international NGOs condemned the removal of Imanov, who is known for specializing in human rights, and was the lawyer for many political prisoners.
The court of first instance and the Ganja court of appeal upheld the decision of the Bar.
