Lawyer Elchin Sadigov states that he is under pressure from the investigators because he protects the rights of Polad Aslanov, editor of the websites Xebermen.com and Press.az.
“I was warned first that I should not defend Polad Aslanov. After I petitioned for Aslanov to be re-interviewed, today the head of the investigation began to threaten me,” Sadigov wrote on his Facebook page.
The lawyer noted that he would send a written appeal to the leadership of the country and would ask him to ensure that he could work independently and safely.
Polad Aslanov was detained on June 12, and the next day the court arrested him for 4 months. He was charged under the Article 274 (state change) of the Criminal Code. The investigation is conducted by the State Security Service.
Local and international organizations condemned the criminal prosecution of Aslanov, finding that the true reason for Aslanov”s arrest is his journalistic activities
