The Baku Court of Appeal today rejected the complaint of a member of the Popular Front Party (PFPA), Fuad Ahmadli, about the refusal of release on parole.
Recall that Fuad Ahmadli was arrested in August 2016 on charges of “violating the law on operational search activities” and disseminating personal information of Azerfon mobile phone users. In addition, he was charged with abuse of power.
He was sentenced to 4 years in prison on June 16, 2017. Later, the Court of Appeal and the Supreme Court upheld the conviction.
In May of this year, the Surakhani District Court rejected Ahmadli”s appeal for parole in connection with the serving of more than half of the sentence.
Today, the Prison Service again presented a negative description, indicating that Ahmadli “did not improve,” “did not repent of the crime committed,” and others.
Lawyer Elchin Sadigov pointed out the inconsistency of the argument that Ahmadli “did not admit his guilt”, because according to the law this cannot be a ground for refusing release on parole.
Ahmadli himself pointed out that the employee representing the prison works in the second detachment, while the convict himself is in the fourth detachment and therefore he is not competent to speak in his case. Ultimately, the court dismissed the complaint.
