Many types of conflicts exist in Europe ranging from social tensions, community conflicts to ethnic and identity-based violent conflict in Eastern Europe, namely in Ukraine and the South Caucasus.

To aid communities and individuals affected by these conflicts, peace education – defined as a holistic, multidisciplinary and transformative process to develop competences in nonviolent conflict transformation, respect for human rights and active participation – is one approach of peace-building measures that aims at strengthening nonviolence and participatory means of conflict transformation to ensure human rights protection, nonviolence and participation as fundamental principles of societal life allowing young people to not only grow up in a peaceful environment without their personal development potentials being jeopardised but also to contribute conflicts to be addressed nonviolently without making use of direct, structural and cultural violence.

Against this background, the project proposal aims to strengthen the competences of youth workers and youth educators in peace education for young people in order to empower young people to become pro-active agents of peaceful change via local community initiatives addressing societal conflicts.

Therefore, the youth workers and youth educators will participate in two e-learning modules and two training courses in Georgia and Hungary on conflict transformation, peace education, and training delivery. As a result, the participants shall be enabled to design, implement and evaluate their own training courses and workshops on peace education for young people in their communities.

Thus, the following objectives have been created in view to the overall aim of the project:

To qualify new peace educators in planning, delivering and evaluating educational programmes on peace education for young people
To create new educational materials and activities for peace education programmes for young people
To trigger transnational partnerships on peace education among youth organizations
The chosen approach of this educational proposal is based on the experiences of a Grundtvig Learning Partnership on mainstreaming peace education and a KA2 project where a competences framework on peace education in the youth field was developed.

The course is addressed at professional or voluntary youth educators and peace educators working regularly in NGOs, social movements or initiatives and that already have an understanding of peacebuilding, peace education, and youth work, but would like to deepen their conceptual understanding and improve their professional competences for their work with young people on conflict transformation and change processes by means of peace education. The course contains two trainings and an e-learing programme. Successful applicants will have to participate in both programmes.

The youth workers chosen for the activity will have to show:

Knowledge of the situation of young people in the own country and of the specific conflict context for young people
At least basic knowledge and understanding of approaches to peace-building, specifically in the field of youth work
Work experience in an NGO working with young people by educational means
Have led at least 1 local or international educational programme (youth exchange, workshop, etc.) for young people on peace education, civic education or human rights education
Motivation to take part in a mutual learning process in a highly intercultural setting
Good level of English
LAGODEKHI, Georgia | International flights to Georgia mainly target Kutaisi and Tbilisi airports. Flights to Kutaisi are operated by WizzAir, a budget airlines that connects Georgia with many cities in Central and Southern Europe. From Kutaisi a bus connection (georgianbus.com) is available for each arriving flights that takes passengers to Tbilisi centre in 4 hours. Participants are required to choose the cheapest travel option and provide the organisers all tickets with invoice/receipts during the training.

Participants will be transferred from Tbilisi (Freedom square) to Lagodekhi by bus and participants will be informed about departure time by email and in the project facebook group. After the training a similar bus transfer will be organised from Lagodekhi to Tbilisi. The organisers deduct 15 EUR from travel reimbursementsfor the local transportantion in Georgia.

Participants are kindly required to arrive to the meeting point (Liberty square, Tbilisi) on 7 November 2018 at the time given in the email and Facebook notice of instructions.

BUDAPEST, Hungary | Most common arrival point is Budapest International Airport. Flights to Budapest are mostly operated by national and budget airlines from many big cities across Europe.

Participants are kindly required to arrive to the project venue (Hotel Griff) by using public transport (bus #100E from Airport to last stop, then change to tram #49 to Csóka utca stop OR bus #200E from Airport to last stop, then change to metro line #3 to Deák tér, then change to metro #4 and get off at Kelenföld train station (last stop). The hotel is just 8 minutes walk from the metro station. From main train stations (Keleti and Nyugati pályaudvar) and main bus station (Népliget) take any metro to Deák tér and get on tram #49 to Csóka utca stop (the hotel is just 5 minutes walk from the tram stop). Participants are required to choose the cheapest travel option and provide the organisers all tickets with invoice/receipts during the training.

Participants are kindly required to arrive to the project venue (Hotel Griff) on 10 April 2019 before 3pm. Address of project venue: H-1115 Budapest, Budapest, Bartók Béla út 152.

TRAVEL DAYS are 7 and 13 November 2018 (Georgia), 10 and 16 April 2019 (Hungary). Participants can stay longer only if prices of flight tickets are not higher than on travel days.

An e-learning programme will be conducted in two phases – each phase preceding one training course – and contains the following elements:

Phase 1 before the 1st training course:

A reading list on general understanding, concepts, and approaches to peacebuilding and conflict transformation
A reading list on peace-building in the youth field
A reading list of approaches, concepts, and methodology on peace education
Assignments corresponding to the three fields covered by the reading lists
Phase 2 before the 2nd training course:

A reading list on peace education and competence development
A reading list on training delivery and key competences of trainers/ facilitators
A reading list on key competences for educators in the field of peace education
Assignments corresponding to the three fields covered by the reading lists
