Imprisoned lawyer Aliabbas Rustamov, stopped the hunger strike on the 11th day, said the journalist Shahvalad Chobanoglu.
According to him, Rustamov called him today and said that he had stopped the hunger strike because of the numerous appeals to him. He called the next injustice the postponement to October of the trial scheduled for August 7 in the case of his parole.
“Aliabbas considers himself a hostage. He said that he would continue to fight against injustice and lawlessness and thanked those who supported him,” said Chobanoglu.
It was not possible to receive comments from the Prison Service.
* Rustamov was arrested on June 28, 2014. He was charged under the Article 312.2 (giving a bribe) and 313 (official forgery) of the Criminal Code. The Baku Serious Crimes Court sentenced him to 7 years in prison.
Rustamov himself and his relatives believe that the reason is an open letter in 2014 addressed to Ilham Aliyev, in which he accused the authorities of corruption and theft of national wealth, as the reason for the persecution.
In July 2017, the Supreme Court reduced the sentence to six years in prison. Rustamov denied the allegations, calling them falsified, and human rights activists recognized him as a political prisoner.
