The Nasimi court of Baku rejected the petition to transfer a member of the Presidium of the Popular Front Party (PFPA) Ayaz Maharramov to house arrest on August 20. This was announced by the lawyer Fariz Namazli. According to him, the defense will file an appeal.
Maharramov was detained in connection with the “Karabakh action” on July 14-15. The oppositionist was charged under Art. 186.2.1 (destruction or damage to other people’s property on a large scale), 233 (violation of public order) and 315 (resisting the police) of the Criminal Code of Azerbaijan, according to which he faces up to 10 years in prison.
The PFPA states that Maharramov did not participate in the manifestation and therefore could not commit the criminal acts incriminated to him.
