Consideration of the cassation appeal of the former Health Minister Ali Insanov in the Supreme Court of Azerbaijan is scheduled for January 16. Turan was informed about this by his lawyer Togrul Babayev.

According to him, Insanov himself refused to participate in the trial. The defense considers appeals in the Supreme Court, as a procedure necessary to apply to the Strasbourg Court.

The trial of Insanov's cassation appeal was to take place on November 14, 2017. However, at the request of the prosecutor, the hearing was postponed. Insanov called this "artificial delay" of the case in order to delay the submission of an application to the European Court of Human Rights.

Insanov was arrested in October 2005 on charges of attempted coup d'état. However, he was sentenced to 11 years of imprisonment for economic crimes.

In October 2016, 56 days before the end of the imprisonment term, new charges were brought against him, including possession of drugs and resistance to the authorities. In April 2017, he was imprisoned for another 7 years, and the Court of Appeal upheld the sentence.

Back on March 14, 2013, the European Court ruled on the unfair condemnation of Ali Insanov in the first case. But the judicial system of Azerbaijan left the verdict in force during the second trial.
